Outdoor Learning in Wanagama for The Class 2020 in Semester II 2020/2021
The outdoor learning innovation program in Wanagama was first implemented in Semester II 2018/2019 for Class 2018 from 8 July to 3 August 2019. This program combined Agroforestry lecture activities, the Development of Soft-skills and Forester Character activities (independent outdoor projects), the Exposure to Global Competencies by alumni, and the Field Practice to Introduction to Forestry Science. All activities were carried out in the Wanagama Educational Forest and then followed by the Field Practice on Forest Types and Utilization in the forest areas on the eastern part of Java Island. The whole event ran for about a month. However, this program was not implemented in Semester II 2019/2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Alumni played an important and active role in this program by becoming a resource person in the Global Competency Exposure activities (PKG). The PKG consists of:
1. the Enhanced Stadium Generale activities.
Exposure students to the strategic and contemporary forestry issues, and the challenges professions in forestry.
2. the Outdoor Inspiration Class activitie
Inspiring students by alumni leaders.
In Semester II 2020/2020, the Forestry Undergraduate Study Program of the Faculty of Forestry UGM plans to implement this learning program in Wanagama. Due to the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic, this program will implement two periods: group 1 (17 May – 12 June 2021) and group 2 (4 – 31 July 2021). Each group will consist of around 150 students. The Learning Objectives of this program for Class 2020:
- to build the spirit of Corsa and the character of UGM forester in the first year
- to provide students with exposure to global competencies & soft skill development. Therefore they can project their professions and scientific fields in the future.
Student activities in outdoor learning at Wanagama in Semester II 2020/2021 include:
- Online courses: (1) Dendrology, (2) Tree Physiology, (3) Introduction to Forest Resources Economics, (4) Soil and Water Conservation, (5) Forest Survey and Mapping, (6) Forest Resource Biometrics, (7) Wood Anatomy and Identification, (8) Conservation of Forest Resources.
- Block offline practice classes: (1) Forest Soil Science Practicum, (2) Dendrology, (3) Forest Ecology, (4) Forest Mapping and Surveying, (5) Wood Anatomy and Identification.
- Field Practices on Forestry Science (1 credit)
- Field Practice to Type and Forest Utilization (1 credit)
- Global Competency Exposure (PKG) (2 co-curricular credits)
PKG carries out 14 activities @ 100 minutes with the equivalent of 2 credits (1400 minutes).
- Outdoor Inspiration Class (PKG-KI): by alumni leaders to inspire students as many as 7 activities.
- Enhanced Stadium General (PKG-ESG): by various professions from alumni to present 7 activities on professional challenges, challenges, and forestry issues.
- Development of Soft Skills and Foresters Character
- Forestry Work Activities (K3) in the form of independent group projects are outdoor activities to develop field skills and the character of UGM forester as many as 14 activities @ 100 minutes + 640 minutes of independent work (2380 minutes with a weight of 2 co-curricular credits).
- Contextual Pancasila Against Student Radicalism (soft skill 1) – for 100 minutes.
- Exploring Self Potential (soft skill 2) for 100 minutes.
Preparations and requirements for student participation in this program are as follows:
- Parental consent,
- Conducting rapid tests from the hometown and health facilities
- Checking with GeNose at the Faculty before participating and after participating
